Class Levels:
Foundation: This class is perfect for beginner or ongoing students who want to have a clear understanding of basic postures, breath work and meditation. You will build strength, flexibility and awareness. You will gain a solid understanding of alignment in the basic postures.
Evolve: This active practice allows for a flow that connects movement to breath. All levels are welcome to this juicy, reflective practice. Some prior yoga is recommended, but modifications will be offered. You will be introduced to more challenging poses and develop an understanding for the deeper principles of alignment.
Flourish: This class is for experienced students ready to explore more advanced poses and will require strength, breath control, and a solid understanding of alignment. Hand balances, backbends, and inversions may be explored in this class.
Gentle: If your body has some limitations as to the type of exercise you are able to do, then gentle yoga is for you! We will use chairs for support as we move gradually through a gentle posturing (asana) practice to re-align and strengthen the muscular skeletal structure, increase bone density (preventing osteoporosis), lubricate joints (reducing arthritic flare ups), improve circulation, enhance mental clarity, increase energy level, and improve balance. We will do breath work to expand the flow of energy throughout the body, thus reducing respiratory ailments. We will practice easy meditations to calm the mind and soothe the senses.
Restorative: Restorative yoga is a wonderful addition to your regular yoga practice. Treat yourself to a restorative class once a week for an excellent way to rejuvenate and counteract stress with the experience of deep relaxation. Enhance your night's sleep and harmonize your body and mind for the start of each new week. Restorative yoga is about restful postures that relax and quiet your muscles and mind. It differs from free standing poses that require muscular action. It lowers blood pressure, lowers heart rate, loosens joints, boosts the immune system, keeps the endocrine system working well, and increases flexibility. It is practiced with the use of props that encourage deep relaxation: cushiony bolsters, blankets, blocks, straps, chairs, the wall, and eye pillows. Poses are held for relatively long periods of time, often from 2-10 minutes, allowing the body the opportunity to relax, heal, and replenish energy. Whether you are a beginner or advanced practitioner, physically fit, recovering from an injury, or having physical limitations, you will reap benefits by including restorative yoga classes in your practice.
